So is it worth the time and money to put a Lous short stick on a stock non hurst shifter, or don't bother wasting my time and money on the stock shifter, and get an aftermarket setup

I had a short stick on the stock non-hurst shifter, pretty big improvement. Then I went and got an aftermarket shifter (Pro 5.0) and used the short stick on it, even bigger improvement. My vote, do both.
If your goal is quicker / more reliable shifting, I would spend money on an aftermarket shifter first (pro5, B&M) then decide if you want the throw even shorter. I had a LSS on my Pro5, but thought it was too short. I cut the Pro5 handle down by 3/4" and put it back on. Works best for me.
