Default Manual Trany problems

Here is the list of problems

1- Doesn't down shift into 1st gear unless i am almost at a stop, other wise it grinds trying to go in, but i dont force it, i just slow down

2- Pops out of second, normal driving, like coming out of a corner or going to second after leaving a trafic light.

3-(Big Problem) Wont go into 2nd gear while racing!! Used to not be a problem till a few weeks ago. I cant stand it, trany must be fixed to race on.

4-Pops out of reverse, i have to hold the shifter forward till i hear a clunk. If not it pops out or grinds and the car doesn't move.

5- Keeps tearing up the plastic bushing/spacer, that the shifter shaft slides into. It will break or tear the bushing after awhile. This is the third time.

I have delt with these problems since bought the car, they were all bearable till now, when it started affecting my racing.

How much will a rebuild cost me?? On average??

Any guess as to what is exactly wrong??

What parts would you buy to rebuild it with? Viper forks, carbo parts??

Sounds to me like all your syncros are out. I know my 3rd gear does a similar thing, it'll either grind and not go in, or pop out after I let out the clutch. Sucks, but I guess I should expect it after 100k miles.

1 - 1st gear Blocker ring is shot. Also possibly the 1st gear engagement teeth as well as the 1/2 synchro slider. Slider and hub must be replace as a unit. Also check the shift fork.

2 - 2nd gear and slider are almost certainly toast. Also check the 2/3 shift fork.

3 - Same as 2

4 - Reverse gear and slider are damaged. Also check reverse shift fork. The shift fork is steel so it's most likely ok, but check it anyway.

5 - Caused by your problems above.

The more it grinds the more it tears up the sliders and engagement teeth on the gears.

After the rebuild make absolutely sure that your clutch is adjusted properly and disengaging fully. This might be contributing to your problems above.

A basic rebuild kit will run between 150-199 depending on where you get it. The Gear Box kit is cheaper, but I like the seals better that come with the D&D kit.
Synchros are between 100-149 each
Gears are 100-150 each
Shift forks ~50 each

Also, you said you changed the shifter bushing/ socket 3 times.The reason is you are prolly not gluing it back in place( scotch weld epoxy 2-part). That or your shifter is worn or incorrectly set.
