Default Silly question: No reverse burn out?

Use to smoke the hides in my automatic vette in either direction. But my M6 camaro threw a fit when I tried it. Whats the deal?

I don't know why you'd want to do it, but I'm guessing you got a ton of wheelhop? The suspension geometry is all out of whack for driving the car hard in reverse with the way the axle is located - there's alot less control of axle movement by the links, thats why you get massive wheelhop.

Vette OTOH has IRS, so looking at the 2 suspension designs, it seems the Vette would be less of a problem with the wheels spinning in the opposite direction.

You should never do a burnout in reverse.

The gears in the rearend, and the transmission are cut in one direction. They aren't meant for huge shockloads to be imparted on them backwards. In other words, don't do it...

So I should try it now with my aftermarket suspension components?

Ha... breaking stuff is no good. I did it in the vette one time to taunt my import friends who couldn't break their tires loose, or at least not very well. And one such friend was with me when I got the camaro. I know there's no good reason for any such foolishness, but I just like my cars to be able to handle whatever I can throw at em, I dont like feeling like I'm driving something fragile. Guess its time to fab up a custom IRS or trade for a vette again.

An Irs has the same sort of design. You risk the same sorts of failure in an IRS equipped car. Sure can either of them take it. Perhaps. But there is no good reason for doing it. If your car can't doa burnout going forward, unloading your car from the rear with a reverse burnout is a poor substitute.

Uh you're gonna do a custom IRS or trade for a vette just so you can do burnouts in reverse!?
