Default HARD LEAVE and M6?

Before i spend $2200 on a 12bolt or 9inch rear i have a question. We all agree stock 10 bolt can take much more punishment with A4 trans. The reason is the rear has some preload with A4 in front of it . What if you brought M6 up to say 5000 rpm and released soft initially to provide slack removal than came out hard with clutch.
This seems to be what converter does (minus torque multiplication). I would think rear would survive ok and as long as you had traction the 60 ft. would be strong. Has this been done and what were the results?

Rear ends don't just break on the launch. They
also break on the shifts.I kept trying to figure
out how not to buy a rear end,but I bought I
one anyway .Now, I don't have to worry about it.
If you see the ring gear on the 10 bolt compared
to the 12 bolt,you'll understand....It's hard
to justify spending the money, until you break it,
and your stuck somewhere.
Years ago,I had an 84 5.0 Mustang.It came with
basically
the same rear end as an LS-1(7.5).I exploded it
on the 1-2 shift.Stranded in the middle of nowhere
2 in the morning and had to get a ride from a drunk to get to a phone.IT was NO fun!I think ford
went to the 8.8 inch in 86(?).Atleast FORD LEARNED! <img src="gr_grin.gif" border="0">

01z, i appreciate your reply, but what are you saying about my idea, lets say no powershifts, just speed shifts would this work ok? Any body have 60ft. #s doing it like this without breakage?

By leaving soft you would save the rear most of the worst shock, but you are going to be giving up so much time in your 60' that you might as well just be dumping the clutch at a lower rpm or use a less sticky tire. In the 1/4 and especially in the 1/8th 60 foot times are critical.
But just my .02 <img src="gr_stretch.gif" border="0">

The way you're describing is exactly the way I launch. It does take "some" of the shock off the of the rear, and put it on the clutch. However not enough to keep from breaking a glass 10 bolt. The only way to keep a 10 bolt alive is to not touch it. Stock 3:42's are fairly strong, and will hold up a LOT longer than any other gear. I have put my 3:42's through tons of abuse that would have already broken any other gear.

BTW, I broke my buddy's rear end on a 3-4 speedshift on the highway <img src="gr_images/icons/wink.gif" border="0">

Drag racing on a budget is always how ive done it. I have 68 Nova that runs 1.42 60 ft. with street gears and a trans brake. It has a stock driveshaft and no tubbing. I went 10.30 on a 9" inch slick, 10.13 on a 10.5"tire. Car weighs 3340lbs. with me in it. My point is driving finesse and preparation can be worth just as much as hi dollar parts designed to insure reliability.

I've always launched how your talking about.
If I just dumped the clutch,I would either bog
or spin with a 3.42.Always trying to slip the clutch'just right'.
I just installed a Moser 12 bolt w/4.10's.
