New to a M6
New to a M6 This is the first manual transmision car i have owned(and first v8, first Camaro, and only second car for that matter). I have a 99 SS and am wondering how low is too low as far as RPMs are concerned? As a rule, I try to keep her at above 1000 RPMs and preferably at 1,500 when cruising so 6th is usually out on city highway jaunts(wjen its only a half mile or so at 45-50). Ive always heard it is bad to bog an engine down at too low of an RPM. Is this true? I also do a lot of 1st,3rd,5th shifting(which is a pain in the *** when youre new to a manual, let alone a Hurst where you have a split human hair between gears

I usually skip 3rd gear all together when shifting.....just go 1 to 2 to 4 to 5....probably saves me a small bit of gas. I never use 6th on city streets....not worth it. I'd say that anywhere between 1500rpms to 2000rpms is good for cruising as far as gas mileage is concerned. But I dunno about you guys....sometimes I just have to leave it in fourth while doing 40-45mph down the road....just sounds really sweet hearing the motor run in that range. GAS MILEAGE BE DAMNED!!!!
