Problem getting into 3rd when racing

When I drive my car normally I have no issues except sometimes it grinds a little into 4th when cold.
HOWEVER! When I race, I cannot get it into 3rd. I usually shift a 5,500-6,000. This is EXTREMELY frustrating because when I get a great launch I can't finish out. On top of reving the engine.
Does anyone know what it could be?

Have you done the drill mod? This helps with shifting at higher rpms. Also, flush your old hydraulic fluid out with new stuff if it looks dirty at all.
