possible problem with trans?
possible problem with trans? Ok have a textralia everything seems fine, poly motor mount. Every once in a great while I'll have a little trouble finding a gear like an old linkage problem used to feel. I also hear a clunking noise at times and it feels like maybe the gears are floating, if you can imagine what I'm saying. I have a hurst billet w/chrome shaft. It lends a good feel to the drivetrain. Before the motor mounts it was a whole different scenerio but now that its solid and doesnt move I can feel a clunk at times but not a skip in gear(chipped tooth) type of clunk, more like a loose floating feel. Doesnt grind in any gears, have 3:73's in da stock rear. Possible problem on the horizon? Or just drive it til something definative happens? How sturdy is the 6 speed?
Im not a big fan of drive it till something happens because when something does, it usually is worse than it should have been. What tranny fluid do you have in your tans? Also, when was the last time you checked it or filled it? Does it happen when its cold? when its hot? If you feel it in your tranny, then I would more than likely rule out the rear end. How many miles are on your car? Both of us do not have the carbon fiber syncros or steel shift forks in our T-56's. Has it ever felt like it has stuck in any gear or hard to pull out of a gear? Ever popped out of a gear?
If the last part of what Rob said is true, you probably have a slightly bent crappy shift fork. I had the same problem developing in mine and i overlooked it as being operator error and ended up trashing 3,4,5 synchros and bending 1-2 shiftfork and breaking 3-4 and fusing 6th gear to the mainshaft. Get it checked out if you are worried. sooner the better.
