Default rattle from shifter?

well sometimes high rpm/load in 2 gear or up (hear it today slightly after a shift to 3rd) i can hear a rattle/vibration from the shifter. its an aftermarket stick so it doesnt have that rubber piece in there (hurst shifter) so the noise travels through there pretty good. im just wondering if this is something just normal with a high load on the car or what. any ideas? any of you ever experience it?

If there is a rattle in the shifter check it. Mine did that until i used lock-tite to tighten the bolts. As soon i used it i had no more problems with it.

Mine does the same thing! It did it before I got the shortstick, on the stock hurst, but it was a little quieter. Ill try the loctite too and see.

only thing that kinda bothered me is i just did my clutch so i want to make sure all is well. i get paranoid after doing stuff and dont know if this was just something that was there before too lol. but i forgot to loctite those bolts this time becuase i ran out, i wasnt even thinking about it, so hopefully that will shut it up lol

It's normal. It's the price you have to pay for an aftermarket shifter or short stick. I wrapped my short stick with teflon tape to reduce the noise.

make sure the bolts are tight. I have to tighten them every other month.

Go out and buy usome rubber gomets/ O rings that tare the same size as the bolts that attach the stick jto the tranny....place the gromets like they are washers for the stick....this will ihsolate the trany vibrations from the stick..

yeah i was actually thinking about that one, the bolts on the shifter were tight, the bolts on the stick werent as tight as they could have been. i figure that could have been making some of the noise. i think im gonna run to the hardware store and pick up some rubber washers

I just put a short stick on and I'm getting noise through the stick only at idle and low-rpms. Basically under 2000 I can hear something resonating through the stick. I'm going to do the rubber gromets and I'm also thinking about putting some sound deadening material on it (or teflon tape as above). Definately going to do the loctite on the bolts.

i'd also check the rear trans mount i just replaced mine today. i guess i broke mine power shifting. but only under a load the trans was hitting the under body of my car. which caused a very bad vibration under the seat and the shifter was really noisy while all this was happening. my mount wasn't broken all the way but starting to tear apart. my car has 105,00 miles i guess it was time for one
