Default Pilot bearing issue

I grenaded my T56. I pulled it out and the pilot was literally turned to dust. So I put another transmission in and test drove the car. I had just put the new cam in also and was having fun seeing if I had any issues. Well my Spec 4 decided to take a crap on me. DOH!!! So we pull the tranny out and look only to find my new pilot bearing is gutted and the outer casing has slid forward some. What would cause this? I will say we tried several times to stab it in on the ground before we put it on the lift. Also the pilot slides in real easy, it is not tight at all inside the crank. What can I do to to make sure it will stay in place firmly?

Default

You should have to press in the bearing. If it slides right in, it's either not the right bearing or you've done some damage.
