well mine is now slipping in 5th and 6th gears. don't know why. I have been on the phone with spec and also e-mail. We are thinking that the shim is not letting it fully disengage. Hopefully we are going to tear it down next week. till then the car is sitting.

I've had the SPEC 3+, billet steel fly & McCloud adj. master on my Z06 for about 500 miles. It takes a little getting used to compared to the LS6, but it doesn't shudder or make any strange noises.
You really can't slip it at all, so downshifts are kinda rough without rev-matching.

my spec is gone after only 6 months, maybe 2-3k miles of daily driving.felt great while it lasted, then after a hard track pass i couldnt take the car over 2k rpms the whole way home.clutch was just pretty much free spinning....
i dont know about everyone else...but im not down for pulling the tranny and spending 500+ every 5 months

it seems like it is hit or miss on the spec clutches. Mine was put in by certified spec dealer and is still having problems in 5th and 6th. taking it apert next week and hopefully it is only the shim needs to be taken out.

I've done a ton of 3+ setup's. The first thing I tell customer's is DO NOT SLIP THE CLUTCH. Engage it as fast as possible. These clutches and alot of other brands do not last long if they are slipped alot. They are made to hold big power, not be slipped. If you want a long lasting daily driven clutch use a LS6 or LS7.
We expect 15-20k miles out of performance clutches. That is good if they are holding 440-700rwhp I expect 5k miles out of my personal clutches by the way I drive.SPEC 3I was the only clutch to last that long on my Vette.I loved 5500rpm clutch slipping at the track

it could be possible that there was an operator error!!

I've talked to Thunder about a few clutches and they recommended the 3+. Also from everyone in here that has the 3+ generally likes the results. Not every clutch is perfect! And as some guys have said bad clutches can come down to istall issues and also poor break in time and driver error.

well I broke mine in just like they said, not slipping, not getting on the gas etc...

The car is going in tomorrow to see whats up. It could be install, but who knows. The place that put the clutch in is a SPEC dealer and have done tons of these clutches.

I only have 1200 miles on the clutch .

it's hit or miss, although there's still a lot of mistrust of Spec after the stage 3, bottom line is if you want your clutch to be a good dd and occasional track use I'd personally go with an LS7 clutch.

I've decided on a 3+ and RAM adj. master cylinder... This is going on basically a stock 02 z28. I know this might sound a little rediculous, but I'm planning on full boltons and cam/n20 within 18 months. My questions are these, for someone who has minimal experience working on cars ( I've HELPED put an auto trans back in before) would I really be better off paying someone else to do all this for me? Will my stock 02 slave be ok with this setup?

I used to be a big supporter of the Spec. I have over 50K miles on my Spec Stage 3. It's just now starting to make some nasty noises and I'll be replacing it with an LS7. I just got tired of the chatter and after reading all of the horror stories, I'm frankly afraid to buy another Spec. I know what I'm getting with the LS7. I'm not a gambling man, so that means a lot with me.

I went with it and put mine in last week. 500 miles+ and its driving amazing! At first it was VERY stiff and chattered very little. But as miles went up it got better and very light, no chatter at all! I love the clutch. Lets see how long it lasts. I recommend a hard launch at 500 miles to really help and break in the clutch. I likes to be driven hard.

I was @ Thunder a while back talking to one of the guys in the shop and he said I should expect the stage 3 to last 20K miles.

A Buddye with a cam only 420 rwhp 02 z28 fragged a spec 3+ in 4k miles.

Now how much of that is driver error I cant say for sure but we will see how long it last with a Ram Power Grip. I am going LS7 for now and IF i manage to frag that, then i'll deal with a spec 3+
