Clinking sound from the shifter area?

Clinking sound from the shifter area? Lately I have noticed a slight clinking sound (not clunking) coming from the area around the shifter. It kind of sounds like a loose bolt or washer or something and Ive only noticed it when its in the odd numbered gears.
Any ideas? It shakes rather hard during in 3rd gear when the RPMs are above 5k.
