Need Help Asap
Need Help Asap well i just picked up my new car lastnight, today i turned a corner got on it and hit a what looked like some large dirt clumps and got some wheel hop. now i have a really loud humming coming some where from the rear of the vehicles it sounds like. doesn't do it in 1st but in 2-6 from 2krpms up its loud as hell. i really need help ASAP b/c i really need to drive back home tonight which is about 100 miles away...hoping it maybe something like pinion bearing or such. car drives fine besides the noise. thanx in advance
I may have bumped the exhaust and/or heat shield. Thats a wild guess, but I had it happen to me. After working on the car one of the heat shields got bent and would vibrate at the same engine load everytime.
Ok you say new car. How long did you drive it before hitting these clumps of dirt?
Are you sure the clumps of dirt are the cause of the noise?
It's hard for me to relate hitting clumps of dirt and bad pinion bearings. It's kind of tough to damage a pinion bearing by hitting something. Depending on how hard a hit it was you could have broken an iron side bearing shim if the car was sideways. But thats a hard enough hit that you'd most likely have a bent rim or at least be worried about that too.
I have no other ideas. Hope someone else can help you out.

just thinking its the cause b/c of the wheel hop and i know wheel hop can really damage things. car has 45k and i just picked it up from the dealership and it acted perfect until right after that
