At one point some TT Viper guy got Holinger to give him a trans so he can race at one of the big Viper meets. They banned him before he even had a chance to make an exhibition pass.
See the wires coming off the shifter handle?
The shifter **** is actually an adjustable strain gauge. As you pull or push on the handle to make the shifts, there is a signal sent to the ECU to momentaraly interupt the ignition. All of the high end ECUs have this feature. This takes the load off the input shaft and allows for lightning fast upshifts and downshifts without the clutch.
This is a neat video. Its not the Holinger gear box, but another clutchless trans with an H-pattern shifter in a road racing Mazda.
Video
Watch it several times and pay attention to the feet and the shift lever.
