Default Harlan shift light question

Alright i just added H/C/I to my SS and the tach is very slow in 1st and 2nd gear, it cant catch up with the high revs and I bought a Harlan Shift light and was wondering if the shift light read off of the Tach or the engines actual RPMs. Thanks in advance

It taps into the tach wire in the pcm harness. It will read accurate without the delay that you see in your tach needle.
