Default How To Shift Smoother!!!!!!!!!!!

When I bought the car, the guy had a pro 5.0 in, i hated it. Very notchy and loud. Now I have the stock hurst in it, and it's ok. I was wondering if there are any smooth shifting ones, like, no effort to move it from one gear to the next, nice a quite. I was thinking the hurst plus but I am not sure...any suggestions on how to make shifting easier and smoother??

I know alot of guys want the feel they get from a Pro 5.0, someones gonna come in here and tell you to get a Crown Victoria if you want smooth (it was posted as a reply eariler). The wear on a tranny will effect how easily it goes into gear, for example there was a thread where a guy was asking why his is hard to get into gear yet his buddies car that should be identical just slides in real easily.

New internals will solve most of that problem. Your shifter will have about 20% to do with it. You want a smoother shift, get an automatic transmission.

not a smoother shift, just something that slides into gear easy. I drive manuel cars all the time and seems like these cars are just tougher. I have to actualy use force to get it into gears, where other cars I can use one finger to shift it into gears....

i bought a new clutch back in january. i mean, it goes into gear fine, doesnt slip, but i guess i am used to something super easy and smooth, no real effort. When i shift, i have to feel it like "click" in 2 times then i know its in gear and wont grind. kinda weird, but i guess i gotta deal with it...

The corvette T-56, and I belive the GTO T-56 uses a tripple cone syncro configuration. Its expensive for the conversion, but its a lot smoother.

Sounds like it could be in the tranny.

well, when i had the clutch put in, they said the "input shaft" or drive was a little damaged, so they sanded it down to make it a bit smoother. i have not driven another t56 car so i dont know if it feels like it is supposed to...

I had my syncros and a few shift forks updated per a GM bullentin. They filled the tranny with redline synthetic for manual transmissions. Its amazing how smooth the car shifts now, smooth as glass in all gears.

I had them put the redline fluid in after reading on the corvette forums how great it works. I had to have it ordered through a local parts store and yes it was pretty expensive but WELL worth it, a night and day improvement.

Well, IMO the T56 isn't the smoothest transmission out there anyways, so I'm not sure if you have a notchy transmission or just aren't used to it.

I drove a Prosche the other day and DAMN those trannys are smooth!

welcome to the "my shifter clicks twice before going into gear"club. I know what your talking about though I have the stock hurst and a t56 with 10K miles on it and feels just like the old one with 95k. But a friend of mine has a 99 with the stock shifter and that thing feels like a honduh whilst rowing threw the gears.

My shifter feels the same way, just seems like it doesn't want to come out of gear or go into gear without using a little force. Gets very annoying after a while too. The sad part is no one on this website has a positive idea of what the problem is, or how to fix it

I'm telling you guys change the fluid, i was the first to say there is no way fluid will make that much of a difference. It does, night and day. Do a search on some of the corvette boards thats how i found it.
