Help!! hey guys i really need some help on this one..everytime i shift into second gear it grinds really bad and sometimes it pops out..i beleive its my 1-2 synchro and possibly my 2nd gear but im not sure..i think my dad and i are gonna just pull the trans and replace whatevers broken but my only concern is do i need a press to press everything in the trans back together?
If you're going to do it the right way you'll need some good snap ring pliers, pretty long gear pullers and a press. You'll probably need a 2nd gear synchro rebuild, and possibly need to replace the gear or redress it depending on damage. Seeing as how you're going to have to yank most the gears off the mainshaft I'd probably just buy a synchro rebuild kit and do em all if the trans has some miles on it.
If you wanna do it cheap and kinda just enough to get by you could get away with some pipes and a hammer, or rigging up a gear puller in revers. Just don't be surprised if you break something.
