Default Pro 5.0 people....in here.....

...did yur shifter cause more noise? Seems as though my trans is louder since the install (meaning the whining that you can hear through the shifter). I didn't use any gasket material, nor did I grease the little cup that the shifter ball goes into, should I have?? Thanks, Shawn

I would use an RTV gasket inbetween the shifter and the trans. To reduce the noise you can cut a small gasket and place it between the shifter handle and the mount. The stock stick uses a rubber isolator to absorb the noise but most aftermarket shifters do not. Increased noise is very common.

If I were you I'd go back and put some RTV sealant where it's supposed to be. Ya don't want any dirt or water to get in there.

The rubber isolator of the stock shifter is there to keep the noise from the transmission down. The aftermarket shifter eliminates this isolator and you get more noise from the transmission. It's perfectly normal, and expected.

I did mine different - I cut out a piece of gasket material and coated it with Permatex. It's as quiet as stock this way.

Right now I just have the stock Hurst and Lou's short stick. Took a piece of dynomat, cut a slot for the shifter and laid it over the bellow. Cut down alot of the whine.
