3rd gear grinding?????

3rd gear grinding????? I have a problem i just bought a 98 trans am with 40,000 miles on it and (sometimes) when you put it in 3rd gear it grinds and doesnt want you to put it in it. Is this a sincro problem?? it also only happeneds if you are easy on it and not going that fast.

Is 3rd gear find while granny shift? WOT ?
If while granny shifting could be either the 3rd-4th fork or syncros. Only a good tranny shop that can tear it apart will know.
If it is grinding while WOT, it could just need the 'drill-out' mod. www.installuniversity.com has a great write-up about it.
How is your clutch? When was it changed out?
A 98 with 40K on it, you know it has been beaten a little.

Re: 3rd gear grinding????? thanx for your help its real weird when i get on the gas it tends to go in good and when i am just goin slow and take it easy on it then it tends to grind and kick you out of it...?? you think it is a bent fork? if so.. how much you think it will be to repair and who should i take it to?
