Default All 6speeds equal??

Was every 6 speed from 93-02 the exact same? Or are there differences? If so, witch years are most desirable?

The 93-97 LT1 T56s are different than the 98-2002 LS1 style T56s.

98-00 had paper lined syncros and 01-02 had carbon fiber lined. (i.e. dont use synthetic in a pre 01' Ls1, synthetic is hydroscopic (sucks up water) and will swell the paper linings.)

No LS1 or LT1 T56's have Carbon Blocker Rings. THEY DID NOT HAVE THEM FROM THE FACTORY. All F-Body's have the paper lined blocker rings. We have built well over 700 and none of the come from the factory with carbon blocker rings. Only the aftermarket units which would have been purchased after 2005 have them from the factory. The only ones that come from the factory with carbon blocker rings are GTO's, Corvettes and 03 Cobra's.

Thanks,
Amber

Yes, I dont believe it was all of the M6's but some of them had a numerically higher 1st gear and i believe a few other gears like 6th were a bit higher as well. Thats why they arent rated for as much power, mainly because of the first gear

I have heard on here of people tearing their 01+ tranny apart and reporting a difference, but I dont know. As to them adding it, they kinda have to as noone makes paper ones anymore I dont belive.

Here's the info I have found doing a little digging ...

93~93: 2.97/2.07/1.43/1.00/.80/.62 LT1
94~02: 2.66/1.78/1.30/1.00/.74/.50 LT1 and LS1 versions
04GTO: 2.97/2.07/1.43/1.00/.84/.57 LS1

I have a 93 M29 with a fresh rebuild I am thinking of selling.

Yes we always add the carbon blocker rings. The stopped making the paper ones a year or two ago. The 93's have a different gear ratio and will not hold power. We don't offer a service on the 93's due to that problem. The carbon blocker rings can still wear out but are better designed than the paper ones. All blocker rings wear out as it is a wearable item. Hope this helps.

Thanks,
Amber

the bellhousings and input shafts are longer on the T56s from LS1s to accomidate for the slave cylinder being on the input shaft.

Hey Joe, would worn blocker rings make for hard shifting at high RPMs and/or notchy shifting?

Yes they would. When the blocker ring wears it does not slow the shaft down to the correct speed so alot of people have issues getting it to go in gear at high rpms.

Thanks,
Amber
