Tranny oils
Tranny oils I did a clutch job on a 2004 viper recently. And while working on it I noticed that it had a sticker on it to use "gear oil" (which type I don't remember). The viper had a T-56 trans. Why is it that GM says use dextron merc. III in the trans and Dodge says something different with the same trans ??????
I've heard internet rumors that the Viper guys like to use some stuff called Syntorq or something like that. From what I understand, it is a thick, "gear oil" type of transmission fluid that holds up better to the heat that is generated in that particular car. Not a lot of cooling airflow going around the transmission in that car due to tight packaging.
Take that information for what it is worth, as I certainly don't own a Viper, and have never used that type of oil in my T-56.
