Default T56 Tranny Question?

Well having been thru quite a few trans in my 01 SS. I am at my wits end with trying to deal with the dealership on rebuilding my stock one (cause they seem never to get it right). I have heard that FLP makes a nice T56, and I have just read about D & D, but from what I seen it looks like they just sell the parts. Anybody have an opionon on either one of these trans? Or anyone else they would recommend on building a decent T56, that wont break after a month of driving it.

Default Re: T56 Tranny Question?

Consider this...

The only 'hardened' part available (that I know of) is a steel 3-4 shift fork, as opposed to the stock aluminum. And D&D is supposed to have some (kevlar?) synchros that are an upgrade, but they're available to anyone, including FLP.

My questions for you to ponder are, what are you breaking, and why? Is it your driving habits?

Since you're in IL, I think it's a no brainer. FLP (or I think Speed Inc. rebuilds them as well). I have the philosophy 'stay as local as possible' - makes returns and warranty work much easier. Give both of them a call to discuss, and pick the one that fits.

I rebuilt my own T56 with parts from D&D. Works great. Can't get much more local than my own garage & driveway.

These trannies are tough, but not invincible. Sounds like you've either got a moronic dealership (if a computer weenie like me can rebuild a T56 successfully on his first try, why can't a mechanic? ), or your driving habits need to change.

Good luck,

Andrew

Default Re: T56 Tranny Question?

My T56 is going along fine right now. The car has about 21K miles on it. What I'm wondering is if there is ANYTHING that can be done to the T56 (internally) to make it shift better. I already did the drill mod and have a pro 5.0 shifter (both made it work MUCH better). Just wonder if there is anything else.

Thanks
