Default Exo-Skel break in.

Hey guys, just got my Textralia Exo-Skel installed yesterday and I've been breaking it in so I thought I would throw out some opinions here. I had a Spec stage 2 that took a dump on me, so that's what I have to compare to. The pedal for the Exo-Skel is actually lighter than the Spec...my buddy has an 06 GTO and my pedal is about that same as his now. Going from a stop has proved to be the most difficult part, unless I hit the sweet spot juuuuust perfect it chatters quite a bit. I only have 70 miles on it so far, so I'm hoping that will decrease a bit more. The rest of the shifting, on the other hand, has gone from cutting a steak with a butter knife (with the Spec) to cutting butter with a HOT knife...Verrrrrry smooth. This clutch is unbelievably streetable, and it just doesn't seem to care about launching hard. I did a 4k dump to see if anything was going to break and the clutch wanted MORE!!! I have full confidence that this thing isn't going to give me any problems. I highly recommend it to anyone who never wants to buy another clutch. I'll keep everyone up to date and post how long it takes for the 1st gear chatter to dull down or go away as well as the new things I do to it. I'm going to keep it simple for the next 200 miles or so and then progressively push it a little harder. Until next time...

mine hardly chattered at all. i put mine in when i put another motor in so i broke them both in by trying to vary rpm/load.i absolutely love the clutch. you can feel it start to gradually start to catch about a 1/3rd of the way off the floor until it fully engages around 1/2 or 2/3rds of the way up and it is smooth engaging. the spec was pretty much go from disengaged to fully engaged in a very short distance of pedal travel which sucked .

the chatter will go away after a few hunderd miles. This clutch wants to grab, so let it out faster.

Oh yeah, they bite hard. Letting out faster is really what the clutch likes, but sometimes you can't spin tires from a red light (I.E. a cop right beside you lol). It is reducing slowly so I think it is going to go away eventually....otherwise I LOVE IT!!!

Clutch has 108 miles on it now, as long as I keep it above 2k rpm it hardly makes any noise at all. It seems to get smoother every time I push the pedal. I've played with it a bit now and it holds up perfectly. Once again, I'll update with any new developments or 200 miles, whichever comes first!

I have ~ 1000 miles on mine now and the chatter is pretty bad. Chatter seems to be worse the warmer the clutch gets. It is something I expected to have but hoped I wouldn't have. The weight of my truck and tall tires (31.5" 20's) cause the problems to be worse i'm sure. I had 3.73's and just put some 4.30's in it yesturday and that really helps in not haveing to slip it as much. I hope it gets better but if not i'm still happy with it. Peddle is really light and engagement is always constant, IT GRABS. The point of engagement travel on the peddle is very tight but is typical of all metallic disc clutches i've driven.

Any dry plate clutch that holds that much power is going to chatter a little. However, a few high rpm dumps will smooth it out a little.

yes, a couple of high rpm dumps seem to work for some.. technically, you should be able to let it out without giving it any gas and it should release nice and smooth

Does it (or did it) "squawk" at all, when first releasing it in first gear, especially when it is cold outside (or before it heats up) like other performance clutches??

Nope, hasn't had any odd noises at all actually...It's quieter than the Spec.

I had the chance to drive a procharged Z06 with one of these. He has not really abused the clutch at all so it chatters a good bit and there is very little room for error taking off. It feels like a great clutch though. Good pedal feel and seems to bite well.

Ok guys, 200 miles now! The clutch has gotten much easier to deal with on slow starts. It still chatters bad under 2k, but I'm going out tomorrow to give it a workout...A few 4-5k dumps and some gear slamming should drop that a little more. I'll post again with the aftermath...My satisfaction so far is easily a 9 out of 10 overall with a top score for being a twin plate!

Ok guys, here it is...The post that finalizes my opinion. I drove the car all day today and I have one thing to say...WOW! After letting it sit for a couple of days, it is wonderful now. The low rpm chatter is almost totally gone, I have no problems taking off at 1000 now. The high rpm shifting is unbelievably smooth and of course it still grabs like no tomorrow. My rating is a 10 out of 10, you can drive the car around town all day, and it still cruises at highway and interstate speeds not to mention the ungodly grabbing power. 200 miles is the magic number, just make sure you make those stop and go miles!
