you don't need to touch the k-member. once you take the driveshaft and transmission crossmember off the engine will tilt a little bit on it's mounts to give you room to the top bolts.

Is it necessary to remove the exhaust to tilt the engine?

No I just replaced my SPEC Stage 3F with the complete exhaust on. It would be eaiser with the Y-Pipe out of the way though.

Special wobble sockets are necessary to remove the tranny & bell housing top bolts as well as about 3' of extentions.
