cant downshift from 6th to 5th
did the same thing on the trip home as well...wouldnt go from 6 to 5 at all and grinded going from 4 to 5 once out of 5 times...
the only way that i could get it to downshift from 6 to 5 was if i revved the engine over 5k and then it seemed to slip right in....i forgot to check my clutch fluid reservoir if it was dirty today...i will have to take a look at it...would a leak in the hydraulic system cause somethiung like this?
a few nights ago i did the 2-1 shift on the freeway...i got back on the clutch very quickly but it still overreved the engine....the car seemed to have no ill effects after that occurred that evening...even the next day it drove fine but i never went up to 6th gear so i dont know if it had the problem yesterday...today was the first time it has ever happened and im trying to find out why..im open to any suggestions...could a transmission be overevved and if so what damage could it have caused?
cliffnotes:
overrevved engine and now car wont go from 6th to fifth without reving the engine high
i dont really wanna try forcing it because id like to get as much possible life outta this thing before i need to rebuild it...id appreciate any suggestions...thanks
how exactly does the shifter control the transfer of one gear to another? are their individual forks/selectors for each gear? is it possible one of these got sheared or bent, pretty much anything that wouyld not cause it to shift properly for that desired gear?
any tranny specialists as sponsors on this site i can talk to?

what would cause a synchro to wear prematurely? especially on a high gear like that where no one would really speed shift to grind....ive only had the car for about 6 months and have put 7k miles on it trouble free....its at 55k right now...i dont know how the previous owner drove but he did bring it into our body shop after he wrapped the rear end around a pole trying to "drift"
