Default Interesting shifting fix

I was changing my oil the other day and wanted to check the trans fluid. So I pulled the plug and fluid shot shot out so i let it drain till it was at the bottom of the fill hole like it should be. On the way home I felt and immediate difference in shifting. Before shifting always felt like it would "stick" right before it went into gear. Now now its just like a semi smooth "bump" before it goes into gear and it feels like it is soildly into gear feels very nice then before. It also had a slight burn't smell at 15,500 miles gonna change it out one day.

which plug did you pull? the bottom one ("drain") or the top one("fill")? if it was the top one it makes me wonder how it got so full...when i change mine, i drain the tranny from the bottom plug, then pull the shifter off the top and pour 4 quarts in it. i dont usually check the fluid since i change it so often, but i dont remember it coming out of the top "fill" plug...

gotta wonder on that one... I had something like 4.6 quarts in mine since back in November I had done an LS7 clutch swap, lost fluid out the tailshaft and had "refilled" not sure of how much I actually lost. When I changed it last friday, I found I had a lot more fluid, enough to fill 4 bottles and then some.

I'm back to a barely 4 quarts fill now, but before that it was shifting fine up until a few weeks ago when I was in traffic and then after a random out of the blue stall the shifting felt "different". The way the stall happened was weird in itself because I hadn't stalled it in ages and it just felt like something during that stall launch had changed.

It's almost back to normal now, but I can't help but wonder if my odd shifting was caused by either having too much fluid (and to be in slow stop/go traffic no less) or something else.

I said the fill plug you might have missed it. Your only supposed to fill it to the bottom of the fill hole. No more

Anything over 4qts is excessive and the windage caused by an excessive fill CAN affect synchronization. It can fave a greater affect cold. The issue gets worse when you jack up the car to check an oil level that is intended to be established with a level vehicle. A drive-on hoist is the best. If the ride height has been altered the problem of setting the level properly get worse. It is always best to meter the quantity going in the box over a fill-to spill method.
