Default T56 torque rating?

How much SHP/torque can a stock T56 generally take before it blows?

I'm thinking about putting one in my V6 car. The car makes 550ft-lbs though, so I don't want to put in a tranny that will certainly blow up.

I don't really have the cash for a built up T56 either. I'd have to stick to stock right now.

It depends on several things. You first have to get the torque to the ground before the trans actually sees it. The higher numerical ratio sets ( 3.06/ 2.97/2.66 were available)will have a lower design torque rating. The early T56s also had narrower face-width gears that will lower their rating. That said:
3.06 and early 2.97 sets were rated at 350 lb-ft
later 2.97 and 2.66 sets 450 lb-ft
2.39( very limited availability) 600 lb-ft
newer sets :
2.66Viper 500 lb-ft
3.01 SSR 450 lb-ft

Thats what I figure too. Sure, I have alot of total torque, but it's coming from a really wussy engine, and an oversized slow spooling turbo. The power hits about as hard as a school girl.
