Is it normal for clutch fluid to turn black?
I just got my tranny reinstalled and didnt notice before but the fluid is black and I dont know what the problem would be if there were one. I have the Mcloed adjustable, with a single disc/steel fw, and 01' t/o bearing. Could a fluid flush solve any problems or is there something bigger I should be looking at? TIA
It will turn color over time but not black. You need to flush the system. You may have a defective master or slave though. How many miles on this fluid?
what color should it turn? I have about 1500 miles on mine and it's turning a dark color. I called cartek and they said the line might be too close to the headers, causing the fluid to get too hot. Making my shifting hard, so he said to switch it out with a dot 5 fluid.

I have the hose wiretied away from the headers under a heat sheild but I think when the last tranny was installed something happened then. I had to adjust the clutch alot to get good pressure and release so I think it might have burnt up then. The slave appeared fine when it was removed but I am gonna change the fluid now just to be sure then readjust the clutch too. <img border="0" alt="[Burnout]" title="" src="graemlins/burnout.gif" />
