not much. gm didnt put them in 350 cars because of reliability issues. but it really depends on how hard you drive it. ive seen them last behind 400 rwhp cars, and ive seen stock tbi cars blow them up. if you get one, look for an 88-92, the world class, they have better bearings in them

Yup... Thats what I was gonna respond with. "not much". You can build them.

Why not just go with a t-56? Do you have any reason to need to stick to the t-5??

im a high school student working at a grocery store looking for a temporary tranny... eventually id get a t56 but for now a t5 that will hold 250 hp would work. and you can get the DIRT cheap.

if you're planning to upgrade later....than just put the cheapo in it.

and DON'T race it....DON'T powershift it either.

shifting gently you can nurse it along for quite a while with significatnly more power than the rating.

There are a few different versions of the 3rd gen T5 . The V8 cars had a 2.95 ratio and got the world class specs in 1988 thru 1992 . The world class units are pretty decent but won't hold up to the power even a stock LS1 makes if you plan on driving it rough . For cruising it should be fine but for anything other than that , good luck with a stock unit .
