T56 conversion question
Newbie here looking for advice on what T56 gear box to use in an A-body (1964 Chevelle) LS series upgrade. My biggest concern is the shifter location.....anyone have experience with this and can give a guy some help?

Thanks for the info. The engine mounting is not the exact same as the '69 Camaro, but it is similar, I think I just have to buy new frame brackets and bolt them in. As long as the shifter lands in the right place....
Thanks again

I've done the T56 install on a 66 Chevelle. I had to cut out my tranny tunnel to weld in a new one that was wider and taller.
The shifter location ended up around 4-6in back from the stock location. The same tranny crossmember can be used by sliding it back and drilling new holes, but you will also need to cut off the trans mount bracket and reweld it back on the crossmember in a new position.

To put the shifter in stock location you will need the viper tailhousing. Mine fit in my stock console in my 71 Chevelle.
I also have both my trans and a new Viper tailshaft housing for sale if interested.
