Did it come with longer than stock bolts? I only ask because that seems to be something that is commonly overlooked. Aftermarket shifters generally have thicker bases on them than the stockers, and if you don't use the longer bolts, you stand a good chance of stripping out the threads in the transmission. Take this advice from someone that has become a seasoned heli-coiler.

The short stick shouldnt have anything to do with hitting the console since it bolts to the driver's side of the shifter. Its the shifter itself that hits the console. If its just a matter of a tiny bit of interference, just take a knife or dremel to the console. That area gets covered by the boot anyway. Or, try to loosen up the bolts for the console alittle shift it over a bit.
Then again, if you are like me and dont use reverse that often, its not a big deal and you'll eventually just ignore it.
