t56 GT &WS6
Is it true that the 2000 mustang GT and 2000 Trans am are running the same trans? If so are they interchangeable ? can you take it out of the trans am and put it into the gt. the reason im asking is my friend needs a trans for his gt and i have an extra for the ws6. what would it take to do this ?

GTs are 5-speed. TAs are 6-speed. Not the same trans in any way shape or form. 03-04 cobras have t-56s (not sure about the earlier years) and they would need a new bell housing or some sort of adapter to interchange.

A 2000 Gt uses a T45 also made by Tremec . Its a piece of junk . Ford started using the T3650 in mid 2001 and still uses it in all the Gt model cars . The T56 only came in the 2000 Mustang Cobra R , the 03/04 Cobra Terminator and the 07/08 GT500 . All the Ford units have a different spline inputshaft , front plate , bellhousing , clutch design and rear exntension housings . They do not easily interchange with any GM model that I am aware of . Ford / Tremec also offers an aftermarket T56 for the use behind the SBF based engines as well . It too has a similiar setup like the OEM Ford units .
