Use a pilot bearing puller.

Do not attempt to use the old school trick of stuffing wet paper towels in it to force it out, all that will do is push the crank freeze plug out the back and into the oil pan. You dont want that.

Find the "blind hole puller" on the loan-a-tool part of Autozones website, print and and take it with you or call - if your 'zones like mine those folks will need all the help they can get to find it. It's free for 180 days..

Good LUCK! Use the blind hole puller but be Sure you get it nice TIGHT, and most importantly LEVEL your first shot. You don't want to round the edges off the back side b/c the next time the puller will just slip right off. So WD-40 the **** out of it the night before. If worse comes to worse as it did with me...you can always take a very small hacksaw blade and cut out 12'oclock to 3'oclock then pull it! It's a bitch though.

Oh and one more thing. Put your new pilot bearing in the freezer the night before.

Bearing puller for sure. Like said above make sure it is tight, but don't over tighten it! Ask me how I know if you must, LOL. I know I'm an LT1 guy but I would think something as simple as the pilot bearing would be pretty similar (with the exception of that you cannot use the wet toilet paper or grease methods because of the hollow crank). That thing was the absolute hugest bitch in my entire clutch swap. Couldn't get a single shade tree mechanic trick to work and ended up running to autozone the next day for a bearing puller.

Hmm.. I suppose that goes the same for packing it with grease..... THanx for the heads up. I won't try that.. I didn't replace my PB when I did my clutch and trans.. I just gouped it w/ some white lith and anti-seeze and rolled it around in there..
