Default Light weight flywheel?

Is there any benefit to having a lightweight flywheel in our cars. I am trying to lower the rotational mass that the motor has to spin. I will be running the car in the May Nevada Open Road Challenge and running the car over 5 grand for about 40minutes so I want to reduce as much stress as I can on the motor. I have an ACPT CF DS coming and from what I hear, that will really help. But I was wondering about the flywheel. Any input would be appreciated.

ur engine will rev faster with an aluminum or billet steel flywheel. I think that the lighweight fly wheels are suggested for people that do road courses. If i were goin to get one, i'd get the billet because it's a lil bit stronger. but still ways a bit less than the stock one.

no no no no..... dont get the billet, they suck, no offense to someone that has one. On the old flywheels billet was better because aluminium can not take as much friction generated heat and had less grip, as well as the teeth broke off on some. But i personally have a fidanza and would by another in a heart beat. I revs quick and you can feel the car straining less. There is alot less decelaration when you let off the throttle. I have heard horror stories about all the other aluminiums but the fidanza. it has a steel friction surface and steel teeth. So it is the best of both worlds. Not only that instead of resurfacing you send it off and just have a new steel friction surfac put in. So you never have to buy another flywheel again. They lifetime warranty them to i believe. Not to crack and what not. I like it is about 12.5 lbs. Instead of 30lbs. The shop near here uses an old slp aluminium and they say it was a piece of crap. There is one of our sponsors that carries fidanza but can't remeber who.
PM me with any other questions.

It depends on what you're going to do with it, if you're going to drag race only - I would stay with steel (heavier). If you're going to auto X, then a lighter wheel might be better. The reason heavier is better at the strip is because once you have the heavier mass rotating, you have more energy built up so when you let go of the trans brake, stall, whatever - the higher energy is then transmitted through your drive train. You will most likely lose a tenth or two if you go lighter flywheel at the strip.
