i have a 02 camaro ss with a 6 speed and for some reason it got stuck in 4 th gear the other day. i was tol the tranny is trashed. i guess i will take it to the dealership its only got 6000 miles.

 

Welcome to the club. The only solution now, until you get your tranny rebuilt by the dealer, is to stop using 4th gear altogether. Not trying to scare you here, but prepare yourself for a long road ahead. I had mine rebuilt 4 times before I finally gave up & put in an automatic. Same thing happened to me at the same mileage. The dealer rebuilt the trans and told me that one of the syncros was broke. I was pissed! 6,000 miles and I was left driving an f'n metro for the week in the middle of summer.
It started by falling out of third, then got stuck in forth but would not come out. I'll bet my clutch loved that.

 

well i took my car in to the dealership and they said that somthing fell apart in the tranny and jammed up the shifter. they had to rebuild 3rd and 4th gear to fix the problem (new gears and sincros). i have been driving it lately and i dont have the problem with 3rd gear poping out anymore and it seems to be shifting like new again

its called a bent 3-4 shift fork you can get a steel one instead of the stock aluminum from D&D performance for $54 that may help. Also get a shifter other than stock so you dont FUBAR shifts <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="gr_stretch.gif" />

Ditto what GrannySShifting said. Also, I can't stress enough how important it is to put the stop bolts in the aftermarket shifters. I learned my lesson the hard way. <img border="0" alt="[bang head]" title="" src="graemlins/gr_banghead.gif" />

 

im takin mine in for the same problem tomorrow. there is a TSB bulleten on the problem. my dealer said he would give me the upgraded shift forks...if this fails. im calling D&D.

 

I just bought a 2002 camaro ss 35th anniversary with only 93,325 miles on it I'm the 3rd owner. It's been garage kept it's whole life beautiful car. I bought it for 10,000 dollars. I test drive it and it drive fine. So I bought it and drove it home 1 hour away and it was fine. I got into town and drove for another 30 minutes when I was at a light and it wouldn't go into second gear so I drove home in 1st and checked the clutch fluid and noticed it was black so I changed it which took about 45 minutes. The car would go thru the gears perfect when off but wouldn't when on. So it sat for a couple days and I checked it again 3 days later and it was fine. So I drove it for about 20 mins and now it's stuck in 3rd and won't come out of gear when on or off. PLEASE SOMEONE HELP. CAR DROVE PERFECT WITH NO ISSUES OR WARNING WHAT'S WRONG?????

 

More than likely you have a broken slider key. I went through the same issue. Sucks, but the trans needs to come out...
