Default '93 swap?

I'm just curious right now, what would it take to swap a t56 into a '93? My first thought is that it wouldn't be as hard as the later years because the computer already doesn't control anything to do with the transmission, so you wouldn't have to mess with that. Am I right, or no? I just don't like my 700r4/4l60 right now very much because the way it is set up it shifts at like 4500rpm, so I have to shift it manually anyway, so i was thinking why not actually have a manual instead? lol. Anyway, Am I missing any real problems doing it in the '93, or would it be easier than the others like I'm guessing?

It won't be any tougher/easier than any other year, the only difference will be some variations in the wiring. The t56 doesn't need any computer control, so it doesn't matter if your auto is computer controlled or not. You'll still have to rewire the gear selector harness for the hatch, reverse lights and starter safety switch (which takes all of 15 minutes). Everything else is pretty much the same as it's covered in the big sticky at the top of this forum. I just completed this swap on my '98, it's not that tough at all.

The reverse lockout on the t56 does work based on a ground supplied by the pcm. It will only ground when the car is moving at something like 5-10 mph or slower. You can buy a pigtail harness from your dealer and wire it up by re-pinning on of the torque converter wires to the proper location for the reverse lockout at the pcm. The just find that wire at the transmission side of the harness and connect it to your new pigtail harness. The other wire will go to 12v in run. I will look up the pin numbers at the pcm when I get in the shop tomorrow if you're interested.

Also, with a 93 you may have to get a dakota digital box to get the speedo correct. The six speed has less teeth on the reluctor for the speed sensor, and I'm not sure how much a custom chip can compensate without having the car on the dyno to compare speeds.

I had PCM4LESS change my program to an M6 tune whenever I got my mail order and it cured all my A4 -> M6 computer issues, including the speed.

We share our location with PCMforless of NC, and we also did this swap a while back for a customer. His auto car was equipped with 2.73 gears (not an option for 6 speeds). Alvin somehow got it correct using his programming software on the dyno. If his car came with 3.23's it would have been no problem at all since 6 speeds in 93 had that ratio also.

The speedo can't be programmed for gear ratio changes easily in the older cars with chips like the newer stuff.
