4th to Reverse??

Default 4th to Reverse??

well today i was on the highway and i was at the top of 4th and went to put it in 5th... it felt like it went into reverse. I'm not sure if this is possible or not. There was alot of grinding noise. from what i can tell 5th and reverse still work fine tho.

I cant tell you if it did or if it didnt bc i didnt feel the shifter. Keep tring it to see if it does it again, just dont let the clutch out. If it does you might need a new reverse lock out solinoid.

No the reverse lockout will keep you from going into reverse. You should be fine.

I've actually seen someone go into reverse at the track once in a newer T/A (not a pretty site at all) . Its possible to over ride the lock out .

well then does anyone have any ideas as to why it grinds horribly in the 4-5 shift?

it can happen and its not pretty for the trans when it does, but yeah probably a bad lockout solenoid

If you are just getting grinding, its probably a syncro. If you really put it in reverse and let out the clutch on the highway, you would probably be in a hospital and not able to type right now. Do you think you could have downshifted in to 3rd, got the grinding, and a lurch associated with a downshift?

If you drive fine in 5th gear and still get grinding, its probably your 4-5 syncro.

I lost a syncro between 1st and 2nd gears in my first 30,000 or normal street driving and got wicked grinding whenever I moved between the two gears.

If you drive with a bad syncro, you run the risk of chewing up your gears also. I drove with mine for another 10-20K and also had to have a gear replaced.
