Quick start with my M6
Push clutch to floor
Shift to 1st gear
Rev up to 2000-2500 (how high depends on how well tires grip).
Release clutch quickly (don't feel for it, just release it quickly) while giving a little more gas
As soon as you feel the car start to move, floor it.
That should help you win some of those races (and elongate your clutch life)!

I'm not bashing you by any means, everyone has to learn somehow. Find a back road and practice launches and shifting. Take it easy off the line. Every other mustang may take you in first, but second gear you will definately be checking your mirrors to see how he's doing.
My first time out I got beat by a 99 GT. I went up in a blaze of tire smoke and I missed second and gave up. So I went and did my Ralph Machio on the back roads and my first run was a 00 cobra. I was new to the LS1 game and all the articles rated that car 15hp stronger than mine, plus I could hear his exhaust mods, needless to say that I was worried. We pulled pretty even until 3rd. I pulled so hard that I thought he quit. When he asked what I put in it I almost said "gas".
But the fact remains that there a lot of modded mustangs out there as well. Even with a good launch you'll get beat every now and then, there is always a faster car out there.
Good luck with it. You will learn. You will humble a lot of mustangs stock. All the ford guys hate us and those three digit codes "LT1"&"LS1". 345hp comes standard with a cup holder, I love it!!!!
