Stock flywheel resurfacing?
Stock flywheel resurfacing? Should the stock flywheel be replaced when installing a new clutch or can the stock flywheel just be resurfaced? If so, what is the maximum amount that can be removed? Does it need to be rebalanced then?
If it's resurfaced, how much will that affect the engagment point on the clutch. Enough to need an adjustable master?
I'm going to get a new clutch, leaning to Spec III, and am wondering if I need a new flywheel or if I should just resurface the old one. This will be going in with my new 383ci stroker engine. I wouldn't mind getting the Fidanza aluminum flywheel also but not sure if I want to spend the extra $350 on that.
I plan on installing an updated master/slave also in my 99 Z28.

Re: Stock flywheel resurfacing? I had my stock flywheel resurfaced at a local machine shop and I used it with my SPEC stage 3 carbon fiber clutch, and McLeod adjustable clutch master. I upgraded the slave because my car is a 2000 model. I went ahead and relplaced the pilot bearing too. I have no problems yet, if I had the money at that time, I would of gotten a aluminum flywheel. The only reason why I would is because Im trying to get the most out of the car in every catagory. With that lighter flywheel Im sure I would of picked up even better numbers on the dyno due to less drivetrain loss!
