Default Transmission fixes itself?

I bought my 98 TA a little over a month ago and the entire time I've had it, the car wouldn't downshift from sixth to fifth. I had to go to fourth, but not let out the clutch, and then to fifth.

It really sucked, but the other day, I just tried to downshift for s's and g's and what do you know, it worked. What the heck is going on?

I even had a reputable transmission shop drive the car and told me it needed a rebuild.

Other than that, the transmission is fine.

Anyway, two questions:
1. Do I need to have it rebuild right away to prevent further damage?
2. Will anyone in Texas rebuild the trani for a decent price if I pull it out and bring it to you?

fix now before parts break and leave you stranded. We're pretty much very early into the season that downtime can be afforded...

Rebuild as soon as possible. Don't risk breaking other parts that will be expensive to fix (such as gears), and also risk getting stranded somewhere and sometime you don't want to.
