Clutch bad?

Clutch bad? I have been having trouble with my car grinding when going into third gear when the car is cold. I have about 6000 miles on my clutch(Cartek) and I don't race my car or have any big mods(nitrous,blower or turbo) except heads and cam. While I was at MTI getting tunning they had it on the dyno and said it releases fine so its not the clutch, but probably a syncro. Well i dropped it off at the transmission shop they called me and said the clutch is bad and not releasing, thats why it grinds when trying to go into third. The shop wanted to put Centerforce clutch in it for $991 installed. What do you guys think?
Re: Clutch bad? The first thing you need to do is find out if the clutch isnt fully releasing. With the rear tires jackd up off the ground, see if the tires move while in gear with the clutch pressed. If they do then the clutch is draggin.
In this case, its probably the hydraulics and not the clutch or trans. You may need an adjustable m/c or if you already have one adjust it. Also you may need to bleed the hydraulics. The clutch itself will probably be find and its the hydraulics that need to be adjusted.
If the tires dont move then it looks like the synchro in third may be bad. I not an expert with clutches or trans but from what Ive have read, the hydraulics themselves cause most of the problems. When they dont fully release the clutch it puts added wear to the synchros and end up messin up the trans.
Anyway, I doubt its the clutch itself if its not slipping when you get on it.
