How to remover your pilot bearing...
rent a "blind hole puller" from autozone.
They fit. It's one of autozone's newer tools.
It's like 140$ to rent though...but you get all of your money back when you return it.
Works like a charm!

Use a hammer and chisel and knock a slot in either side of the pilot bearing. You can then stick the big puller from AutoZone (the cheap one) in there and it WILL work. That's how I did it...

I have filled the pilot hole with grease and then used a tight fitting pilot shaft(for lining up the clutch) with a hammer to get them out. I hit the pilot shaft into the pilot hole full of grease it has no place to go. The pilot will generally move outward. Add a bit more grease and try it agian. I have used this method several times on older GM engines. I have never done a LS1 so I made be just wasting time typing here.
i got a 5/8in dowl rod from orchard supply and sanded it down to fit into the pilot bearing. because the pilot bearing is betweent 1/2 and 5/8 ID. packed it with grease hit it with mallet. out it came in less than 5min
Hopefully you didn't screw up the rear crankshaft oil gallery plug. The LS1 crankshaft is hollow, don't ya know... It's not solid core like old crankshafts. It's got a plug in the center of it. If that plug gets pushed in to the oil pan, there's nothing between the inside and the outside of the motor.
