weird problem going into 6th

weird problem going into 6th When I shift into 6th for some reason the last couple of days it started to grind. And only in 6th. If I shift real slow it seems to not do it. Any ideas? 
Re: weird problem going into 6th You have a worn synchronizer on that gear. It probably does it worse in the morning when the tranny is cool, doesn't it?
Start saving for a tranny rebuild, the other gears may soon follow if they are equally worn. The tranny will still function just fine, you will just get that grind and it will gradually get worse over use.

Re: weird problem going into 6th Yes, actually I think it does. usually it does it when I am on the gas a little bit and then go from like 4th to 6th. If I am really going easy on it, it seems like it doesn't do it at all. Thanks for the info Tony.

Re: weird problem going into 6th I had this happen on my 5th and 6th. My local trans shop replaced the synchros for those two gears and they were told by their distributor that the stock synchros in 99 models will go bad. They said even if you don't abuse the car and rarely use 5-6 they will eventually wear out, bad design.

Re: weird problem going into 6th I have had the same problem for well over a year but have been able to avoid it by not shifting from 4th to 6th or by first going up toward 5th and then down into 6th. See if that works for you and you may aviod a costly rebuild.
