Strange Noise!!!!!!

Strange Noise!!!!!! When my clutch is about half way down to the floor, a strange grinding like noise is coming from either the tranny or the clutch only when the car is moving. The pilot bearing rattles, so I know that is shot. Then the other night on the freeway cruising about 75-80 MPH, I put the tranny in neutral and coast a little ways and it won't go back into any gear. Is the clutch just getting hot or what. It works fine now except for the grinding noise mentioned up top. The entire drivetrain has about 90,000 miles on it, but the weird thing is this all happened on the same night. Until then, it worked like a charm.

Re: Strange Noise!!!!!! I had a similar problem. My car would grind @ about 4k rpm+. If your pilot bearing is shot (like mine was @ 90k mi.) then excessive vibration and a weak clutch or worn clutch adds insult to injury compounding the problem. Just change the clutch and pilot bearing and throw-out bearing and have some more fun with the car.

Re: Strange Noise!!!!!! It's not like the loud grinding you hear when you don't push the clutch in all the way. It's a different type of grind, a quiter, more muffled sound.

Re: Strange Noise!!!!!! Also when u said u put it in gear while moving u coulnt put it back in gear thats probably because the pilot bearing was still turning the input shaft for the trans(same as clutch engaged)making it hard to return to any gear

Re: Strange Noise!!!!!! I think mine makes a similar noise to what you guys are describing. It only does it when I'm sitting still and I have the clutch all the way to the floor in gear. It's not real loud or anything but it's something I can feel. I have no idea what it is but I was hoping I could find out in here.
