Default Speedo gear...

Is there a special way it's suppose to go on? I see that there is a notch on the inside.

No. It's adaptable to other transmissions (T45, etc.) which have a dowel on the shaft, but the T56 is fully splined and the notch isn't needed/used. There's lock rings on both front and rear of the gear to keep it from sliding either way on the splines.
