trans wont shift when hot?

trans wont shift when hot? This happens at the track after waiting in the staging lanes for a while. Can hit 1-2 kind of hard but 3rd I miss alot and sometimes it will go in and pop right back out. You might be thinking the syncros are f-up but this never happens on the street never. Some thing is getting hot and I beleive its the trans I dont think its the hydralics(sp?)
So what do you think is getting hot?
If its the trans how do I cool it down?
And is there a good ATF that I can put in to cool it down and help the shifting?
I was thinking the GM syncro mesh stuff?
