Description:
1998 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am. 5.7 LS1 Automatic. 2.73 Posi rear end. 136,771 Miles on it.
New front and rear brake pads and rotors. Tires are halfway worn on tread. Engine runes good, transmission shifts good. Previous owner replaced the front to rear brake lines in sections. Stock suspension besides the UMI adjustable panhard bar I installed due to separated bushings.
I bought this car because the Posi was ruined in the rear end. I thought it would be fun to autocross this car and have a good driver. I replaced the posi with a new eaton unit, installed new bearings on it as well as the pinion bearings and races. I put the boogie to the woogie in it a couple times as my son would say. It didn't break! Engine has plenty of stock LS1 power in it and shifted fine at WOT.
The leather seats have tears/rips. Dash pad is broken which is why the cover is over it. The brake light and abs light are on, has code C0121, so the traction control does not work and they are illuminated on the dash.
Drive belt /idler pulley squeaks. I plan on switching it when I get some time.
The body is a good cruise/race car. Clearly not winning any shows with this car. The passenger panel has cracked bondo and crease. There are numerous scratches on it, the front and rear bumpers have spider cracks, the hatch has a crack and to top it off the previous owner was shaving the door locks off and lost the retaining clip for the lock cylinder so that sits goofy. If your intention is to race the car and drive it like you don't care, then these issues are all the more reason to push it hard and not worry about the body.
The radio that was installed was killing the battery so I disconnected it. The t-top holders are missing and I am trying to locate a pair although the studs to hold them have been crushed down for a sub box. Once again, if you plan on racing it like I was, then no big deal.
After a few beers, some enlightening discussions and longing to race a classic. I have been convinced to sell this and put the funds toward finishing my 1967 Firebird 400 4 speed. I could only agree that driving my 67 around a track would be quite spectacular. The 67 is shown in my 70 camaro build thread if you would like to see it. It has stalled though due to lack of funds and this Trans am.
I do have a clean NYS title for it. No trades, funds go toward other project. $4500 Cash Only.
