illinois emissions question.. readiness monitors
hate to say it but your wrong, i have my sheet in front of me and it says EVAP control system: not ready and yes i passed
"If the OBD system has not completed the evaluation prior to the emissions test (see “How do readiness monitors affect the automotive repair industry?” and “How can readiness Monitors be set?”), the vehicle will be rejected for “not ready”. If the OBD system completes the evaluation and detects the problem again, the MIL will re-illuminate, and the vehicle will fail the emissions test. Therefore, simply turning off the MIL prior to the emissions test, will NOT allow the vehicle to pass."
"What are readiness monitors?
A. 1996 and newer vehicles manufactured for sale in the U.S. include software designed to indicate when emissions control systems have a defect that may lead to elevated emissions. These systems include readiness monitors that are used to find out if emissions components have been evaluated. In other words, if all monitors are set to ready, the emission components have been tested.
These monitors are included in the OBD system so overall vehicle condition can be easily assessed electronically at an emissions test station, using a data link connected to the vehicle. To ensure that the data provided to the test station reflects actual vehicle condition, the vehicle computer reports whether or not the data in the computer is current and valid. This check is referred to as “readiness”, and the vehicle will be denied an emissions test if it fails the readiness check."

you can lecture me all you want, i have my emissions sheet with EVAP status not ready, thats alll im saying... didnt realize this thread was old but again no sense in beating a dead horse.
You're allowed one NOT READY on like 00 and newer cars. 2 or 3 NOT READYs allowed on older cars.
You CAN tune to force readiness. I did it.
I went and failed the first time due to the secondary air not being ready, as well as the O2 heater circuit or something.
I set a few things to No Error Reported and they immediately passed the readiness tests. I had I believe 3 not ready the first time...Then they all passed the 2nd time.
The secondary air and the evap are common. Most stock LS1 cars never pass evap from the factory cause of the goofy *** threshholds...Few simple changes though and it's good to go.

Do you know exactly what you changed
I can go back and look at my tune. It's saved in my buddy's lap top which I don't have access to right now.
It's simple though. Look at the test that won't pass, and set corresponding DTC's to 3-No Error Reported.
It's trial and error.

Well I got mine to pass today. I went into the DTC in HP Tuner. I was told just change the one or two that effect the process. Well that wasn't working. So I, out of frustration, changed anything that said 02 or catalyst.
Soon as I flashed it - all green!
Car is registered and tagged too

When i had my grand prix gtp i had dhp tuners (same as HP, almost) and one of the rear 02's wasn't tune out right. It came up as not ready. I told him I would be right back. Parked the car in the lot and tuned it the right way. I uploaded the new tune and went right back to him 5 mins later and passed no problem.
With my camaro I came up as not ready. He put the sniffer on the back and it was 5x past the legal limit. I drove the car for 30 miles around the area and went back to the same guy. He connected to the computer this time and i passed with out any questions.
They are just there to give you a piece of paper...MOST of the people working at these places really don't care.

That test is no longer supported. You no longer have the option to take a sniffer if you can't pass the scan test (they allowed this maybe 6-7 years ago but not since).
