Michigan Area Avoid Performance Eng - Long
My project is closing in on 4yrs due to family issues, selling my house, and job changes.
I started purchasing part when I had the money and my crank was 1st, a Pro Comp 4" stroke for an LS.
Being that this was my 1st ever LS build I missed a critical part on the crank that looked normal to me but ended up being my issue.
The reluctor was even to .008 below the rear Counter Weight but I didn't catch this till now.
About 2 years past and I finally got the rest of my goodies, Auto Tech Pistons and K1 6.125 rods and away I went and had my assembly
balanced by Performance Eng.
I have used them for several projects over the years since I have owned my car including 2 engine builds, a 355 and my 383 and had no issues.
I assembled my motor in Aug. and had issues with it not working then I sold my house so I never got to get into my issue.
Well I found my issue a month ago, Performance had welded the malory ABOVE everything causing it to take out my CKP witch caused
miss fires and a no start condition.

I took the whole assembly out of the car, trans and all and took the motor apart and removed the crank.
I called Pro Comp on the issue but since it was almost 4 years ago and I had it machined they wouldn't help me so I took it back to Performance 2 weeks ago on Monday the 7th.
We went over what was wrong and they said sorry and would fix the issue.
I also asked to have the counter weight taken down -.050 BELOW the reluctor so my CKP would not have any interference and the said not a problem.
I was told that it would be done on Friday the 12th then Tuesday the 15th then Friday the 18th then next week.
I called Monday and they said middle of the week so I called back on Thursday and talked to the owner again, ran thru what was to be done and was told maybe Friday.
This is where I lost my cool and told him it had been 2 weeks now and I wanted it by Friday.........he said ok.
I was told 100.00 to turn the counter weight and I was good with that so I had my wife stop and pick it up on Friday but before she paid to get a pic and send it to me so I could see it.
From the pic the repair looked ok but was hard to see cause it was in a bag so I told her to pay.
She was told that if I had any issue to bring it back and guess what there was.
They left a lip right by the reluctor thus NOT fixing my problem so I put it in my truck and took it back today.
The owner was there and he looked at it and said that was all he could do on the lathe and he didn't want to do it by hand cause he though he would hit the reluctor.
I said well I paid for you to fix this and you didn't and I want it fixed.
Then I encountered about the balance cause of the weight removed and he said it was ok so I said I want this fixed.
He said he didn't want to and wouldn't give me my money back so I walked out.
I know have a crank that is questionable at best and will now have to take it to a shop that knows what they are doing and get this rebalanced and this issue fixed.
Here is a few pics:
