Default Illinois Emissions

Hey all, I'm looking at getting myself an '02 T/A and I'm researching some mods for it. I plan to go with Pacesetter LT's, ORY, and GMMC exhaust. Question is, does anybody know what the emission laws are in the Land of Lincoln?

I wasn't aware of any... I have no emissions at all, nor do I have inspection.

Yeah, he likes to troll threads to post *****.

IL is OBD II testing. I passed when my car had LTs and duals with a 231/237 cam. As long as you aren't throwing a code, it will pass.

Sounds easier than expected...especially for this state, where nothing is easy...So if I go LT then just some O2 sims?

yes, O2 simms, or have the rear O2s deleted via tuning.

Now all I need is to find the right WS6, which is looking to be easier said than done.

FYI.

Most of IL does not have testing. Only counties surrounding Chicago and the IL side of the St. Louis area do testing. The rest of IL is test free.

As said above, for the 10 or so counties that do have testing, it's OBD scan and gas cap test only for '96+ cars. Easy to pass.

Whats up fellas ? Don't mean to hijack or anything but had to get the monkey off my back. My emissions test is coming up in april and my car is currently having a cam(231/237) put in as we speak and my other mods are Pacesetter lts, ory. with an SLP loud mouth 1. These are just a few mods which i think might help get me an answer from you guys .I'm in the lake county area and i believe last time i went different vehicle at the time(97 ta stock cept for flowmaster) they did the OBD II , gas cap and the sniffer. Thanks

In Kendall county, we currently have no testing, but 10 minutes away in Kane, they have testing. Im guessing in 5 years well have testing. This county is like the 2nd fastest growing county in the US. Its true!!!

God I miss the middle of nowhere in Mercer County, IL. I'm stationed in NJ and emissions testing is pretty strict. Really damn strict. Next time I go home I'm having the title swapped to my parent's address so I can cruise the streets of Jersey without worrying about it.

How much does it usually cost to have the code deleted through tuning?

most shops are about 150 to delete the codes and around $400 for engine tuning which includes code delete.

IL does not do a sniffer test, they just check to see if your throwing a code.

you can also buy O2 sims for about $80 which will prevent your ses light from going off... that is you setup for cat removal.

if you keep your cats or buy high flow ones dont worry about the ses code.

Just to clarify, Illinois does do the sniffer test. Just not for OBD II 96+.
