exactly what ive been trying to say, the patriots had 16 weeks of perfect football, perfect in which they were better than the other teams, they are bound to have a bad game where even they cant overcome it. So i dont know what ASSmodeus is trying to say.

I'm saying that if they don't win the super bowl, they aren't the greatest team in history. Period, and that's not debatable. I'm not knocking their dynasty, just this season.. mr. Rick99LS6intakeOopsIMeantLs1ThxForYourCashAnyway.

The '85 Bears, hands down. Most experts will also agree with that.

hahaa, lol, so wait a minute mr.know it all, a team that won one super bowl in 85, a great team they were is better than a team who has dominated the 2000 era with 3 of the last 4 super bowls, and i mean making teams look pop warner? Dude get a life and quit jerking off to what chris collinsworth, and frank caliendo are saying on tv, you dont know jack ****

You don't get it. I'm talking single season here, who gives a rats *** what the patsies have done in the past. None of the past patriot teams are even in the discussion for best teams of all time. I'm talking about the 2007 team, not the 2004, 2005, or 2006 team. They're all different teams! Likewise when I talk about the 1985 Bears, I'm not talking about the 83, 84, 86, or 87 Bears.. they're all different teams too! Are you saying the Bears didn't make other teams look pop warner in 85? Like when they made the Pats look pop warner? In the Super Bowl? Did the Patriots make the 5-11 Raven look Pop Warner? How about the 8-8 Eagles? Oh.. you must be talking about how they did against the 1-15 dolphins..

When you learn how to properly discuss sports, you can come back in and make some reasonable comments.

16-0:
It don't mean a thing if you ain't got that ring.

If they go 19-0, then I will acknowledge them as better, but until then, they aren't. New England’s greatest accomplishment isn’t necessarily this team. It’s this era. San Francisco and Dallas manipulated the salary cap with inflated bonuses, but they paid for it years later. The Patriots are the first NFL team to excel at football’s version of “Moneyball.” In 2001, they signed 20 mid-level free agents, giving modest bonuses or none at all. They’ve let free agents walk. It has been the blueprint for three titles — and counting. They have the best coach (Belichick), the best architect (Scott Pioli), the best quarterback (Tom Brady). Then Oakland gift-wrapped Randy Moss for a fourth-round pick. But they HAVE to win it all, or this season goes down the drain as a flop. If you could ask Belichick, he'd tell you himself he'd rather go 10-6 and win the Super Bowl, than 16-0 and go home.

The stats speak for themselves. You can't base "the best team" simply off of if they win the superbowl or not. The '85 bears also lost 3 out of 4 games in the preseason, whereas the Patriots were 2-2. Stats don't lie...

'85 Bears: 15-1 (reg season)
'07 Patriots: 16-0 (reg season)

'85 Bears: 5837 yards
'07 Patriots: 6580 yards

'85 Bears: 237/482 (comp/att)
'07 Patriots: 403/586 (comp/att)

'85 Bears: McMahon's Rating: 82.6%
'07 Patriots: Brady's rating: 117.2 %

I could keep going but the Patriots beat the Bears in pretty much EVERY field.

Yes, keep going, but move onto the defensive side of the ball. You also forgot rushing statistics, an indicator of ball control.

Oh yeah, that's right. The Defense had to pick up where their lousy offense couldn't seal the deal. I forgot. I was too young in '85.

lol not much has changed since 85 has it...

at least McMahon was the 2nd highest rated QB in the NFC that year. No big stats, just very very efficient. All he had to be with #34 going for over 2000 total yards..

Ok, I have a question. What if the '85 Bears bus was in the Indy 500 racing against my good friend Rick Mears. Who would you take? What if Ditka was driving the bus? Who would you take now! Da Bears! Hands down my friends!
Sincerely, Superfan
P.S. You guys sure get worked up over something that has no meaningful effect on your lives. Just here to stir it up. And doing a good job. Hi Matt

I came to this thread thinking it was about Patriot heads, haha.

Pats need to win the super bowl, then the greatest team of all time talks can start. IMO, you gotta finish on top to be considered, wasn't that everyone's gripe on Peyton Manning? The league is different today, its a league of mediocrity. A ton of teams in the middle, a few at the top a few at the bottom. What they've done in this era is pretty remarkable. As a dynasty, yeh, right up there with the Steelers and the 49ers. As a single season greatest team of all time, they need to win the Super Bowl.

The league 20-30 years ago in the 85 Bears era and the Era of the Montana led 49ers were a different league. No salary cap, and much less free agency. The league as a whole was much more talented with quite a few less teams than we have today. So to be good then, was really good. Everyone seems to forget that the Miami team that beat the Bears was a juggernaut in the AFC. The super bowl should have been Chicago vs. Miami but the Pats got in on a fluke and got crushed.

16-0 is quite impressive though, i don't care what era you played in.
